All about hosting a clinic

BUild a community of equine enthusiasts by hosting a clinic!

What does a host do?

The host of a clinic with Versatile Horsemanship is the point of contact for that particular clinic.

The host spreads the word, advertises the clinic, gets participants and auditors registered, and accepts deposits and payments.

At the end of the clinic, the host is responsible for paying Versatile Horsemanship their cut of the clinic.

The host is free to add on and keep stall fees, grounds fee, fee for food/beverage, RV, etc. on top of Versatile Horsemanship’s daily rates. Once the minimum number of participants for the clinic is met, the host gets a complementary spot in the clinic.

The host is the beginning of the community that forms during the clinic. The host is the smiling face when participants arrive to the clinic and is the voice on the other end of the email, text, and phone line when participants are asking questions and signing up.

The host is just as important as the clinicians.

What should a host know?

Clinics with Caitie and Elliot are laid back, informational, educational, FUN, and somewhat entertaining. We do our best to meet each participant and each horse at the level that they are at whether its a ground control clinic, a Liberty clinic, or a ridden clinic.

Liberty and ground control clinics are very one-on-one. Participants get multiple individual sessions throughout the day. When horses are being started at Liberty in a clinic, Caitie or Elliot typically does the first couple of sessions with the horse, then we have the owner step in to begin working their horse.

Ridden clinics can be a large group style clinic, or a small group style. Either way, with TWO clinicians in our ridden clinics each participant gets ample attention.

Marketing

We CAN and no NOT mind helping hosts market a clinic.

We can create the flyer, create the Facebook event page, post it on our website, and share the clinic.

What should participants bring?

Participants should bring whatever they need to take care of their horse during the duration of the clinic.

A chair and a notebook.

A list of goals that they want to accomplish and any tack that they require to have a successful clinic--such as a preferred halter and lead rope, or saddle and bridle. For Liberty Clinics, we typically have at least 1 set of whips that we will bring along with us and a halter and lead that we prefer if needed.

Other information the host should know.

Liberty clinics, especially when we have green horses and doing introductory to Liberty, are best done in about a 40 ft. round pen. The smaller space helps the horses understand the idea quicker because it helps the handler maintain the proper position easier.

If we're driving to you for a clinic, there is a chance that we have horses on the trailer so we may need a couple of stalls or a paddock to keep them in. We also have a LQ horse trailer that we may need to plug in, or a room to stay in. To sort out these details, reach out to Clinics@VersatileHorses.com
